Carved out of a densely wooded area north and slightly east of downtown Raleigh is the small neighborhood of Finley Crest. It consists mostly of one street, Finley Ridge Lane, with two off-shooting cul-de-sacs. The homes in this two-year-old neighborhood are modern and vary in size from small to fairly large. Finley Crest is convenient to Interstate 540 to the south.
Schools in the area include Wakefield Elementary, Middle and High Schools; Endeavor High School; and the highly-rated Ravenscroft School.
The Savoy Restaurant has won Metro Magazine’s MetroBravo Award for Best Waiters in the Triangle and was featured on University of North Carolina Television (UNC TV). The restaurant has also won the Diner’s Choice Award in 2009.
The nearby Durant Nature Park was once a Boy Scout camp. There are two small lakes and lots of hiking trails. Biking trails are limited.
The 13,000-acre Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is actually nine different recreational areas. One of its featured attractions is the Bald Eagle observation platform.
Frankie’s is a place of fun for the entire family. There are thrill rides, three different car tracks for the kids including an Indy-style road course, bumper boats, miniature golf, laser tag, and more. There is no admission fee, and charges are pay as you go.
Visitors have been known to spend an entire day at the North Carolina Museum of History. Exhibits at this museum showcase the history of North Carolina from colonial times through the Confederacy to modern times. One of the more popular exhibits is a replica of the Wright Brothers’ airplane.
