The neighborhood consists of more than 300 single-family homes that range in price from the low $300,000s to more than $600,000. It is is loosely bounded by Strickland Road to the north and Leadmine Road on the east. The southernmost border is Sawmill Road, while the western boundary is Creedmore Road.

Crosswinds residents who enjoy the outdoors appreciate the fact that the neighborhood is located less than half an hour from both the Crosswinds Marina and the Crosswinds Campground. The marina is a full-service facility located on the shores of Everett Jordan Lake, roughly 20 miles to the west of the city. It offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a day on the lake on a pontoon boat. If catching the big one is on their agenda, the marina also rents fishing boats and has a tackle shop and an independently owned boat repair shop. The Crosswinds campground offers facilities such as RV parking, tent sites, picnic areas, and a number of walking and hiking trails.

For members of the community who enjoy indoor activities, downtown Raleigh is nearby. It offers a number of museums and attractions, including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Legends of Harley Drag Racing Museum, African American Cultural Center, and Page-Walker Arts and History Center.

Crosswinds’ residents in search of educational opportunities need look no farther than the Raleigh area. The city is home to several colleges and universities, including North Carolina State University, which forms one corner of the Research Triangle. The university is well known for research. Two private women’s colleges are among other colleges in the area. The University of North Carolina is at Chapel Hill and is easily reachable from the neighborhood, as is nearby Durham, home to both Duke University and North Carolina Central University.
