Colony Woods is a neighborhood in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The neighborhood is located off of Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard to the north.

Colony Woods is located in a somewhat quiet area in Chapel Hill. The neighborhood is heavily forested with slow roads and light traffic. The roads area a popular place for area walkers, runners, and cyclists to get some exercise. It is also common to find children playing basketball or throwing around a football on one of the many slower-paced residential streets of Colony Woods.

Much of the shopping in the area is done to the south of the neighborhood – off of Franklin Street and Fordham Boulevard – where numerous national brand businesses, as well as smaller local stores can be found. This area is home to stores like Staples, Best Buy, Food Lion Grocery Store, Chico’s, The UPS Store, and even a Whole Foods Market. Another large shopping destination is found north of Colony Woods, past Interstate 40. This is where Marshall’s, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Home Depot, Old Navy, and other retailers are located as well.

Dining is also found in the same area as most of the shopping, along Fordham Boulevard and Franklin Street, within a mile of where they intersect. Some of the restaurants that are popular with area residents include Monterrey Mexican Restaurant, Red Lotus Asian Kitchen, Squid’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar, Jim’s Famous Bar-B-Q, Twisted Noodles, and Starbucks.

Religion is also an important part of the Colony Woods community. Many of the area churches have a big influence on residents and constitute a popular weekly destination. Some of the churches in the area are quite large, with good-sized congregations. The biggest and most well known in the area are Church of Reconciliation Presbyterian Church, Chapel Hill Bible Church, and Grace Church. There are churches representing numerous different denominations throughout the area that are welcoming to new parishioners.
