The Brightwater neighborhood is north of downtown Raleigh. The shape of the neighborhood resembles the face and upraised arm of the Statute of Liberty. Raven Ridge Road lines the eastern end of Brightwater. The only two roads inside the neighborhood are Brightwater Court and Briarwood Place.

The western end of Brightwater is angled to fit alongside part of the watershed south of Falls Lake. The single-family homes, most built during the 1980s, are on large lots with wooded acreage between them to assure residents privacy. The backyards of some homes face the watershed. Residents can walk the shoreline for miles in either direction or find a hidden spot and do a bit of fishing.

Falls Lake, a state recreation area, is six miles to the northwest. Its 12,000 acres are a magnet for those who love to water-ski, sail, fish, or just sunbathe along the shore. Mountain bikers and campers have access to part of the 26,000 acres of forest and grassland. North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea hiking path winds through the park. Just west of the lake is the Falls Village Golf Course.

The closest schools and churches are to the south and east of the Brightwater neighborhood. Brassfield Elementary is the nearest public school, followed by Durant Road Middle School. The private Stevens Prep Academy is also nearby. The Christian Science Committee is just outside Brightwater’s borders. Next closest is the Bayleaf Baptist Church. A number of small businesses are in the area, including Homewood Nursery & Garden Center less than a mile south. Beyond that is the Six Forks Station Mall.
