On the northeast side of Raleigh is the residential community of Brighton. Located in the 27616 zip code, Brighton is sandwiched between Forestville Road and Louisburg Road. The small neighborhood sits north of Mitchell Mill Road. Brighton is centrally located to both downtown Raleigh and the city of Wake Forest.
Along the streets of this North Carolina neighborhood are modern single-family homes on narrow lots. The Brighton community is minutes from schools, churches, and shopping. There is a neighborhood animal hospital within blocks of Brighton. The Mitchell Mill Animal Hospital is located along Mitchell Mill Road, just east of Forestville Road.
The Durant Nature Park is five miles to the west of Brighton. A 240-acre park, it has five miles of hiking trails and two lakes for fishing. Visitors to the park can access Raleigh’s greenway trail system from the north parking lot. The Bird Garden is open year-round and is free to the public.
About seven miles from Brighton, on Spring Forest Road, is the city’s oldest off-leash dog park. The Millbrook Exchange Dog Park is the only one within Raleigh with lights on until about 10 p.m. The park opens at sunrise. There is no fee to use it.
Also located at the Millbrook Exchange Park are a pool, outdoor basketball courts, community center, and a large tennis center with 23 lit courts. The park is home to one of Raleigh’s permanent public art pieces. Artist Jim Gallucci’s Immigrant Gate II celebrates his family’s immigration to America in the 1930s.
Raleigh’s Contemporary Art Museum is about 12 miles from the Brighton neighborhood. It is located on Martin Street, in the city’s Warehouse District. It is two blocks from the Nash Square Park and features rotating exhibits each year.
