The Birchfalls neighborhood is located in northern Raleigh in the 27614 zip code. Situated between Six Forks and Falls of the Neuse roads and just south of Falls Lake, Birchfalls is surrounded by woods and comprised of single-family homes on larger-than-average lots. Near the outer city limits and off the beaten path, the neighborhood is both walkable and dog-friendly.
Nearby schools include Brassfield, Pleasant Union, and Wakefield elementary schools; Wakefield, Durant Road, and West Millbrook middle schools; and Wakefield High School. There are also several private and charter schools in the area.
The closest hospital to the Birchfalls neighborhood is the WakeMed North HealthPlex, located only a few miles south. Just across the street from the hospital is Falls Pointe Shopping Center. In addition to several shops and eateries, the shopping center includes major anchors like Harris Teeter and Kohl’s. North Regional is area’s closest branch library.
For outdoors lovers, there are several area parks. Blue Jay Point County Park is only a couple miles north and offers opportunities to boat, fish, hike, and picnic on its 236 acres. Falls Lake State Park is four miles north and includes a 12,000-acre lake surrounded by 26,000 acres of woodlands where visitors can boat, fish, hike, bike, and camp. Finally, Durant Nature Park, a few miles south, boasts more than 240 acres of land that includes picnic sites, playgrounds, and five miles of walking and hiking trails.
Birchfalls is in an area of Raleigh that is not currently serviced by the major bus routes. However, the area’s quickly expanding population will no doubt make the extension of public transportation to this area necessary in the near future. Despite the lack of public transportation, the neighborhood’s proximity to major roads such as Six Forks and Falls of the Neuse Roads still allows for convenient travel to the surrounding Triangle areas.
