Short-Term

Lofty pines tower above the quiet, southeastern Raleigh neighborhood of Autumn Woods, offering a calm respite from the daily grind of the capital city’s urban center. This small North Carolina community is in the 27606 zip code, between the Poplar Creek and Glenn Jackson neighborhoods.

Though somewhat isolated, Autumn Woods is just two miles south of U.S. 64/Knightdale Bypass and only a 20-minute commute to the downtown section and area universities. As is the case with many suburban neighborhoods, there is limited vehicular access in and out of Autumn Woods, which means low-trafficked streets and little noise. While everything from outdoor recreational activities to grocery shopping requires a short drive, neighborhood residents find that a number of their needs can be met within a 15-minute drive from home.

Of Raleigh’s many green spaces, the closest park to the Autumn Woods neighborhood is Anderson Point, with four miles of hiking trails, a playground, fishing and boating options, and wildlife habitat observation points. Neighborhood residents who are golf enthusiasts can take in 18 holes at the Raleigh Country Club, which also has an aquatic center.

The Wake County Public Library is six miles from Autumn Woods, next door to Raleigh’s Historic Oakview County Park. A 19th century antebellum farmstead, Oakview’s 1855 Greek revival house and four other historic buildings offer a glimpse into the area’s agricultural heritage. Autumn Woods residents will find shopping and casual dining options available at the Shoppes at Midway Mall, as well as along Knightdale Boulevard.
