The Tom Bradshaw Freeway, or I-40, marks the northern border of the neighborhood, while Highway 401 marks the eastern boundary.

There is also a waterfront community center. Many varieties of fish are available in the lake including bass, crappies and catfish.

Many great schools serve the Atkins neighborhood area. The Fuller GT Magnet Elementary School has a gifted and talented program with many fine arts electives. Torchlight Academy is a public charter school which enjoys a parent approval rating of 4 out of 5. The Fred J Carnage GT Magnet Middle School features cutting edge science and technology classrooms, a news studio and a performing arts center. Additionally, the school has an ecosystem learning center with a green house. The school enjoys a high parent approval rating.
