Alpine Forest is situated north of Downtown Raleigh in zip code 27614. It’s very close to Six Forks Road to the east and its northern border is Norwood Road. Other nearby major thoroughfares include I-540 and Durant Road to the south, Creedmoor Road/Route 50 to the west, and Durham Road/Route 98 to the north.

Aptly named Alpine Forest, this subdivision is comprised of homes on heavily wooded lots in the hilly area near Falls Lake. Only one street, Raven Rock Drive, dissects the neighborhood in a north-south direction and ends in a cul-de-sac above a small lake. If care is taken for safety, this is a nice area in which to walk and ride bikes even though there are no sidewalks on Raven Rock Drive nor Norwood Road.

This neighborhood is only a few minutes east of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Duke University in Durham. North of Alpine Forest is the massive Falls Lake State Recreation Area, which includes a number of parks. Swimming beaches can be found in Beaver Dam and Rolling View. B. W. Wells offers hiking. Fishing and picnicking are some of the other activities at Beaver Dam.

Baileywick Road Park is south of Alpine Forest and includes two picnic shelters, a walking path, two lighted ball fields, a playground, and the Lake Lynn Community Center.

For shopping, dining, and entertainment, nearby Falls Pointe Shopping Center at Durant and Falls of the Neuse Road features a Zpizza, Quiznos Sub, Harris Teeter supermarket and Kohl’s Department Store. At Creedmoore Road, just south of I-540, is a shopping area that includes a Kroger grocery and Margaux’s and Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurants.

Nearby schools include Pleasant Union Elementary, Magellan Charter, and Leesville Road High.
