The name “Reno” once conjured up images of casino gambling and liberal divorce laws. But Reno has undergone a renaissance; today it’s defined by its beautiful Riverwalk District, a downtown whitewater kayak park and events such as the Reno River Festival.
Although the casinos are still there, so is a younger generation enjoying stylish downtown living in luxury condominiums and apartments, frequenting coffeehouses, a brewery and chic boutiques and shops within the Truckee River Arts District.
Reno apartment renters have the luxury of three major bodies of water nearby for summertime outdoor recreation: Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake. In the winter, skiing and snowboarding draw tourists and locals alike to resorts such as Sierra-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley Ski Resort, Sugar Bowl and Diamond Peak.
The University of Nevada, the state’s oldest university, is located just north of downtown Reno. The university was named one of the top 200 colleges in the nation by US News and World Report.
Notable residents include actresses Sharon Stone and Dawn Wells (Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island) and Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi.
