The town of Grantwood Village is located 12.5 miles southeast of downtown Saint Louis, Missouri, within Saint Louis County. This community is situated on less than one square mile of land, west of Laclede Station Road and north of Gravois Road. It is roughly five miles from the Illinois border. This beautiful residential area is well taken care of and family friendly. As of 2000, just fewer than 900 people called this town home. Residents here enjoy lush gardens and preserved nature, including trees that date back hundreds of years. At least 345 homes make up this active and neighborly community. Interestingly, this area was once the home of Ulysses S. Grant, which is where the town gets its name. A street in the town is named after Grant’s wife – Julia Dent – and his former home is considered a National Historic Site.
Grant’s Farm, which is run by Anheuser-Busch, can be found in Grantwood Village. This popular family destination offers more than 100 different species of animals from nearly every continent on the globe. In total, more than 1,000 animals can be seen here, including the famous Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales. Visitors also enjoy snacks and samples of Anheusuer-Busch products on the large patio. A project is currently being organized to ensure that this farm becomes protected as part of the National Park System.
Another popular feature of the town of Grantwood Village is Grant’s Trail, a biking and walking trail that is well used by residents. A variety of attractions can be found within a short drive of the community as well, including several shopping centers and the Sunset Hill Country Club.
