For recreation, entertainment, and shopping, East Community Team South is one of the most convenient in the city. This is an older neighborhood and home styles reflect the history of the city, ranging from tidy bungalows to large two-stories. A 10 minute drive allows residents of this neighborhood to be in the heart of one of Kansas City’s newest, largest and most active entertainment districts – The Power and Light District. The District has more than a half-million square feet of entertainment venues, artistic shops, bars and restaurants. It is the place to play in Kansas City. Covering 12 blocks along and north of Truman Road, there are three theaters and almost fifty venues in all. The Sprint Center is in the heart of The Power and Light District. The Center hosts more than 100 events each year, including concerts and sporting events.
For outdoor recreation, Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake are only 15 miles away, and can even be accessed by public transit. Lake Jacomo has trails for hiking year round, fishing and youth summer camps. Nearby James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area is another large recreational site, also about 15 miles away. This area offers wilderness and managed hunting and fishing. Several small parks are within a five minute walk of the neighborhood. One, Blue Valley Park, has a large and challenging disc golf course.
The University of Missouri Kansas City and Metropolitan Community Center are both within ten miles, with MCC being closer.
