Southwest is a neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minn. The neighborhood is situated between Excelsior Boulevard to the north, Interstate 35 to the west, France Avenue to the east, and Crosstown Highway to the south. Along the north border of Southwest is Lake Calhoun and in the middle is Lake Hamlet. Both are large area lakes popular for their recreation and scenic views.

The large majority of the homes throughout the area have significant historical value as most were built in the early 1900s. The historic buildings give the area a great deal of character and make it a desirable place to live by those that appreciate the historic value of the neighborhood.

On the northeast corner of Lake Harriet is a popular area destination for bird lovers, especially in the spring. This is the home of Lyndale Park and the Thomas Sadler Roberts Bird Sanctuary. Throughout the spring the park is filled with many migratory birds, and daily tours are offered by the local chapter of the Audubon Society. The park has excellent paths and is an educational look at area bird life.

Along the west side of Lake Harriet are a variety of attractions. One of the more unusual but interesting of those is the Minnesota Street Car Museum. This museum is dedicated to the history of the street car and most specifically the use throughout the area. It is an interesting look at the history of the area from a different perspective.

Many in the area also enjoy Lake Harriet itself. The lake is surrounded by numerous parks and a three-mile long path. The path is popular with area walkers, runners, and cyclists that take advantage of the distance and scenery.
