Minneapolis at a Glance
Lynnhurst Neighborhood
Like the nearby community of Linden Hills, Lynnhurst was so named because of the many linden trees that speckle the area’s landscape. Nestled within Hennepin County, this walkable southwest Minneapolis community is in the 55419 ZIP code area.
Just southeast of beautiful Lake Harriet, Lynnhurst is bounded by West 46th Street on the north, West 54th Street on the south, Penn Avenue South on the west, and South Lyndale Avenue on the east. The neighborhood is bisected by Minnehaha Creek, and Lynnhurst Park (the community’s namesake) is located near the center of the neighborhood.
Most of the homes in this residential neighborhood were built before the 1940s and are owner-occupied; only about 10 percent are rental properties. You won’t find too many vacant homes in this popular Minneapolis neighborhood. Lynnhurst had approximately 5,600 residents as of 2000, with a median income of more than $95,625 in 1999, which is nearly $58,000 higher than the overall average for the Minneapolis area.
In addition to being situated conveniently close to Lake Harriet, Lake Calhoun, and all the outdoor activities and amenities that these popular area destinations have to offer, Lynnhurst is also surrounded by many small parks. For residents that like to spend a day on the greens, Lynnhurst is centrally located between Minikahda Club golf course, Edina Country Club golf course, and Hiawatha Golf Course.
Southdale Shopping Center is located to the south at 10 Southdale Center in nearby Edina, and Uptown is just 10 minutes away on Hennepin Avenue.
For frequent flyers, Lynnhurst is conveniently located just minutes from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, which is at 6040 28th Avenue South and bordered on the east by Fort Snelling State Park.
Schools in the area include Burroughs Elementary School at 1601 West 50th Street and Washburn High School at 201 West 49th Street. Washburn Public Library is located along the community’s eastern boundary, South Lyndale Avenue.
