Wyatt Earp and Dennis the Menace – it may be hard to imagine a true Western legend and a comic book icon have something in common, but they do – Wichita, Kansas.

Wyatt Earp arrived in Wichita in 1874. He worked as a private officer for a time then briefly served as a police officer from 1875 to 1876. The Dennis the Menace comic strip was born in 1951. Dennis, who couldn’t seem to stay out of trouble, played out his antics in a suburban Wichita neighborhood. Hank Ketcham, the creator of the comic strip, based the character Dennis on his own son.

Wichita oozes with Americana and Midwestern charm. It is the largest city in Kansas and it is the county seat of Sedgwick County. Located along the Arkansas River, this popular city was founded in 1863. It is home to historical architecture, over 40 museums and art galleries, and fun family-oriented festivals, such as Riverfest. This major event includes a river run, live entertainment, a zip line, a parade, and activities for kids.

Founded in 1895, Wichita State University is a top-rated school with more than 200 areas of study. It is located on 330 acres and contains a large collection of outdoor sculptures – one of the largest of any university in the country. The WSU Shockers play in NCAA Division I sports that include baseball, basketball, tennis, and cross-country.

Surrounded by museums, art galleries, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, and gorgeous historic sites, you’ll love your new Wichita apartment. This All-American City ranks high on several “best” lists, including a Top 10 Best Place to Live by Money magazine.
