Within a five-minute drive are many fast-food and regional restaurants, but one in particular is a long-time favorite. The North Star Steak House has been serving Topeka residents since the 1920s and retains its speakeasy atmosphere. It is a restaurant as well as a local landmark. A new Wal-Mart Supercenter is close, as well as a Dillon’s Supermarket.
The neighborhood lies just north of landscape nurseries and small farms selling produce at stands along Lower Silver Lake Road. Sunflower Soccer, also on Lower Silver Lake Road, hosts numerous tournaments.
Just across the Kansas River, about five miles away, is Gage Park, home of the zoo and a new children’s museum. Gage Park also has a dog park, an antique carousel, and a small theater. The Reinisch Rose Garden is a favorite photography spot.
The Governor’s Mansion is also close to North Topeka 2. The walking trails on the grounds are always busy. A small fishing pond is another popular spot on the governor’s front lawn. Near the mansion is the state historical museum. A new theater complex is also nearby.
