North Topeka 1 Apartments for Rent
North Topeka 1 is a somewhat rural area of small, older homes and small truck farms. There are several markets in the area selling locally grown produce. It is also an area of landscape services and fine garden shops. While somewhat rural, it is quite close to large shopping areas, great recreational facilities, and local historic sites.
The North Topeka 1 neighborhood is bound by Highway 24, Northwest Vail Avenue, the Kansas River, and Northwest Menoken Road. Lower Silver Lake Road runs through the neighborhood.
The closest shopping area is along Highway 24. There are two large grocery stores here, including Wal-Mart. Quite a few national fast-food and local eateries are close by. One local favorite is historic North Star Steak House, which was a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. It retains the speakeasy atmosphere today!
Sunflower Soccer Park is in the neighborhood. This multi-field park is a busy place during soccer season, and also a great place for radio-controlled airplane enthusiasts at other times.
A quick drive across the Kansas River gives residents easy access to the great walking trails and fishing ponds on the grounds around the Governor’s Mansion. This is also the area for launching a canoe or kayak onto the Kansas River, or taking in a movie at Hollywood 14. These sites are only a couple of miles away.
Racing fans will find it a short drive to Heartland Park, a relatively new track. It is located in South Topeka, about ten miles away. Also in the Heartland Park area is the Combat Air Museum. The museum houses aviation memorabilia from World War I to the present.
Train buffs will enjoy visiting the newly restored Great Overland Station, also quite close to the neighborhood. Originally a Union Pacific Station, the station is now a museum and educational center.
