Lake Aumond Apartments for Rent
Lake Aumond is an upscale neighborhood located on the southern border of West Augusta. It shares its name with a lake located on the neighborhood’s eastern end, and accessed via Walton Way. To the southeast is the Forest Hills Golf Course sitting between Lake Forest Drive and Wrightsboro Road. The huge Augusta Exchange shopping complex, including the Regal Cinemas, which is home to 20 movie screens and an IMAX theater, is located between Interstate 520 and Wheeler Road on Lake Aumond’s southern edge. Doctors Hospital is just west of the mall.
The majority of homes in the area are single-family homes, some on sizable lots and offering five or more bedrooms. There are a small number of duplexes and row houses, but large apartment complexes are catching on. Most of the homes were built between 1970 and 1994, with a few going back to the early part of the 20th century. Most of the large apartment and/or condo complexes appeared from 1995 on. Lake Aumond is quiet, pedestrian-friendly and considered sophisticated.
Schools in the area include the Merry Elementary School and the Tutt Middle School, both on Boy Scout Road, and Copeland Elementary on Jackson Road. Churches in the area include the First Baptist Church of Augusta, off of Walton Way, and St. Andrew Presbyterian, off of Wheeler Road on the northern end. Most businesses, restaurants and shops are found along Jackson Road and Walton Way. One exception is Rae’s Coastal Café, located on West Wimbledon Drive in the center of the Lake Aumond neighborhood.
