Located just four and a half miles southwest of downtown Tampa, Sunset Park is a bedroom community in Hillsborough County, Florida. The neighborhood is bordered on the west by Old Tampa Bay, Beach Park Isles to the north, South Manhattan Avenue to the east, and West Bay to Bay Boulevard to the south.
State Highway 685, also known as Henderson Boulevard, is the main artery connecting Sunset Park to Tampa proper. Other main thoroughfares include Southwest Shore Boulevard, and West Bay to Bay Boulevard.
Residents have access to many amenities, including 11 local churches and synagogues, several public and private schools, the Charles J. Fendig Library, shopping, and seven parks. The parks include the dog-friendly Palma Ciea Playground, the Clifton “Cal” Dickson Tennis Center which offers classes and lessons, the Fred Ball Park, the Marcellino Chelo Huerta Jr. Friendship Park which offers after-school programs, Corona Park, the outdoor Interbay Pool, and the Bayshore Boulevard Linear Park. At 4.5 miles, Bayshore boasts the world’s longest connecting sidewalk and scenic views of the Tampa area.
For the artistically inclined, this neighborhood is home to the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program 2010 award-winner, Powerstories Theatre, a non-profit dedicated to stories for girls and women. The theatre has been featured in Western North Carolina Woman and Tampa Bay Wellness Magazine. The Entertainment Revue Foundation is also based here. It offers up to 50 shows each year.
