Also close by on West Kennedy Boulevard is The University of Tampa, home to 6,500 students. UT offers a full range of undergraduate degrees and MBA degrees. There is a graduate program here, too.
On the campus is one of Tampa’s most astonishing buildings, the Henry B. Plant Museum. It is a National Historic Landmark and a magnificent site. This imposing, Moorish-style building was once the Tampa Bay Hotel. Teddy Roosevelt, Sarah Bernhardt, and Babe Ruth all stayed here. Today it is a museum. The Yacht StarShip II leaves from here for cruises up Hillsborough River and into Old Tampa Bay. Other events are scheduled throughout the year.
Only a few miles beyond the Plant Museum is Ybor City Museum State park and Historic Ybor, a National Historic District since 1974. There is a lively nightclub and entertainment district here as well.
The neighborhood is only two miles south of the Tampa International Airport and International Plaza, an upscale mall. West of the airport and five miles from Palma Ceia West is one of the oldest public golf courses in Florida, Rocky Point.
