Located just east of historic Ybor city, East Ybor is a small neighborhood within the city limits of Tampa, Florida. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Interstate 4 to the north, Ybor City itself to the west, McKay Bay to the south, and 39th Street to the east.
Public Transportation is readily available, with the TECO Line Streetcar System less than two miles to the west. This system links Ybor City, the Channelside District, and Downtown Tampa, and provides a wonderful way for residents to navigate the Tampa area. In addition, the Tampa International Airport is located only ten miles to the west.
Children in the area will attend Philip Shore Elementary School – a magnet school boasting robust gifted education programs, as well as courses in the visual, performing, and communication arts. The nearby Franklin Middle School is another magnet school boasting law studies and public service programs. There are three high schools within three miles, all having their own magnet programs. Blake High offers programs in visual, performing, and communication arts, as well as accelerated curriculum. Middleton High School offers programs in computers and technology, engineering, and technology. Hillsborough High School offers the International Baccalaureate program – an accelerated learning program in which students can earn college credits. For the college-bound, the University of Tampa is only three miles away.
Attractions in the area are many. Ybor City has been designated a National Historic Landmark District, and the 7th Avenue thoroughfare was listed by the American Planning District as one of the “10 Great Streets in America.” Columbia Restaurant, located a quiet stroll to the west, was named a “Top 50 All-American Icon” By Nation’s Restaurant News.
With its many attractions, great educational opportunities, and 11-minute commute to Downtown Tampa, East Ybor is a great neighborhood.
