Urban Core Apartments for Rent

Jacksonville’s Urban Core is an area rich in culture.

The community, located in downtown Jacksonville, owes much of its revitalization to cultural events such as the monthly Downtown Vision’s Art Walk. The block party and art festival has helped businesses grow and invited more like Chamblin’s Book Mine.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has even gotten on board, announcing that it will display works by local artists at five of its stations.

Other cultural attractions include the 5 Points Theatre, an art-house movie theater known for alternative films and that will also soon host concerts.

Music lovers will enjoy events such as the Jacksonville Jazz Festival.

Sports fans can watch the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team at EverBank Field.

The area includes LaVilla, a neighborhood that stretches back to the early 1800s. African-Americans held senior positions in the municipality, and the impact on culture stretched into the next century as, for a while, the home of the Ritz Theater was known as the “Harlem of the South.”

The boundaries of the Urban Core, which includes much of downtown Jacksonville, includes the south and north banks of the narrowest part of the St. John’s River east of the Fuller Warren Bridge.

Bus-only lanes are coming to the area to help with transportation.

The area’s history includes the Great Fire of 1901, which started in a mattress factory in LaVilla and swept through 146 city blocks.
