Picketville is located in the 32219 zip code of Duval County. Nearby public schools include Samuel A. Hull Elementary, Pickett Elementary, Ribault Middle, and William Raines High School. Less than two miles to the southeast is Tiger Academy. Also a free public facility, Tiger Academy serves younger children focusing on rigorous academics and a structured environment.

A popular recreational destination for area residents is Thomas Creek Conservation Area. Situated about five miles to the northwest of the community, Thomas Creek has over 5,500 acres and contains the Thomas Creek Wildlife Management Area. This WMA is over 1,700 acres where residents can enjoy boating, fishing, wildlife viewing, and seasonal hunting. For a smaller recreational venue that is closer to the neighborhood, residents can utilize Richardson Road Park located about one mile to the southeast.
