New Berlin Apartments for Rent

New Berlin, surrounded on three sides by the St. Johns River and bounded on the north by Heckscher Drive, is located northeast of Jacksonville. This area was primarily barren lands and wetlands up until recent years. However, the land surrounding Florida 9A and New Berlin Road, the primary thorough roads in the area, became very attractive to investors looking to develop residential as well as commercial acreage, along these prime roadways.

Today New Berlin is gradually expanding with new apartment complexes, retail developments, restaurants and business parks.

Despite all of the recent development of land in New Berlin, there is still plenty of undeveloped open space and nature to enjoy. One such place to visit is Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park, located near the mouth of the St. Johns River in New Berlin. This was an important military camp during the Civil War. The site which was occupied by both Confederate and Union troops during the war, at its peak housed over 350 soldiers. It served to protect shipping supply lines to Jacksonville from Union attacks. Today, visitors can picnic in an authentic reproduction of a Confederate and Union troop camp.

Big Talbot Island State Park, a huge 1,700 acre park just a few miles east of New Berlin, is a nature preserve and a location for nature study, bird-watching, photography, hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and picnicking.

One of the three Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) terminals is located on the west side of New Berlin. The cargo and cruise business at Jacksonville’s seaports supports 65,000 jobs across the region and generates over $1.9 billion in annual economic impact.

Just to the east of New Berlin, an island called Blount Island, houses another of Jaxports cargo ports as well as the site of the United State Marine Corps Blount Island Command.
