Mandarin Station Losco Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Called a “tropical paradise” by the famous author Harriet Beecher Stowe, the historic neighborhood of Mandarin Station/Losco is located in the southernmost section of Jacksonville, Florida. Named for the popular mandarin oranges originally grown in the area, Mandarin Station/Losco is part of Duval County and lies along the eastern shores of the St. John’s River across from Orange Park.
Easily accessible by downtown Jacksonville, its scenic splendor, lush parks, and historic buildings attract people from all over the world.
Visitors and residents alike will enjoy a trip to one of the local parks, such as Burnett Park or Greenland Park, for a relaxing day beneath the antique oak trees. History buffs will be drawn to The Mandarin Museum & Historical Society, the Harriet Beecher Stowe Home, and the old Mandarin Store and Post Office, which is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mandarin Station/Losco is also home to several churches, including the prominent, historical St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the nondenominational Christ’s Church. The locals may also attend community meetings and worship services at the old Mandarin Community Club.
Residents send their children to Mandarin Oaks Elementary and Mandarin High School. Current home values in this idyllic town range from the $50 thousands for low-cost, single-family homes, to over $1 million, for sprawling riverside mansions. The average home value, however, is right around $150 thousand. Perhaps the high home values are due, in part, to the fact that Mandarin Station/Losco has more water views than any other Jacksonville neighborhood.
