Jacksonville, Florida is the thirteenth largest city in the United States with more than 800 thousand residents. Located in Duval County in the northeast corner of the state, Jacksonville was named after General Andrew Jackson and was incorporated as a city in 1832.

Running through the center of this neighborhood is Kernan Boulevard North.

East Arlington is a few minutes north of Florida Community College’s South Campus, and is also close to the University of North Florida.

The neighborhood is also just south of the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens, a 120-acre natural preserve with walking trails full of wild azaleas and atamasco lilies.

Residents of East Arlington are just a short drive from Big Talbot Island State Park, Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park, and the Naval Station Mayport. Naval Station Mayport was commissioned in 1942, and its harbor can host 34 ships. In addition, the port has an 8,000-foot runway for military aircraft.

The coastal beaches of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach are to the neighborhood’s east, less than 10 miles away. Jacksonville Beach is home to the American Lighthouse Museum. Nearby is the Pablo Historical Park, a site rich in the area’s railroad history. Visitors can get an up-close look at a genuine 1911 steam locomotive there.

Public transportation is available through JTA, the city’s bus system. The BH1 line transports to Jacksonville Beach. The AR7 line goes to downtown Jacksonville.
