Amity is a neighborhood in New Haven, Connecticut. Located in the northeastern portion of the city, Amity is bordered on the south by Fountain Street, Route 243. The western edge is along the Wilbur Cross Parkway, Route 15. Emerson Street is the eastern edge of the neighborhood, just past Rock Creek Road and Emerson Street. The Wilbur Cross Parkway, Route 15, runs through the neighborhood, as do the main streets of Whalley Avenue and Fountain Street. The zip code for the area is 06515.
The West River Open Space is in the central portion of the neighborhood. A Peace Garden was built in West River in 2000 and displays the United Nations emblem, one of the only places this is displayed on land not owned by the UN. This follows New Haven’s 1985 designation as a Peace Messenger City. The eastern border of the neighborhood runs along the edge of West Rock Park. Shoppers shop at the Amity Shopping Center, located off Amity Road and the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Hilltop Playground contains a basketball court inside the park. West Rock Playground provides baseball and softball diamonds, along with trails for hikers and mountain bikers. The Lily Pond is in the center of Amity as well.
Students are served by the New Haven Public Schools, which include the largest magnet school program in Connecticut. The Mitchell Branch of the New Haven Library is located in Amity. Southern Connecticut State University is to the east of the area, and Yale University is to the south.
