Shapely cactus and tumbleweeds against a backdrop of rugged cliffs and buttes in reds and oranges. Cowboy hats, spurs, and … ostrich racing?

An hour north of Tucson and 20 miles southwest of Phoenix, the city of Chandler, Arizona is a beautiful desert location for renting apartments. Just east of the Gila River Indian Reservation, Chandler is home to unique festivals and a historic downtown complete with colonnades.

For three days in March, the Ostrich Festival honors the unique tradition of ostrich ranching in Chandler. Ostrich races, complete with human jockeys, an ostrich parade, and live entertainment take over Tumbleweed Park.

From large birds to tiny dogs … Chandler is also home to Chihuahua races, which take place during Cinco de Mayo. The festival also crowns the King and Queen Chihuahua. The festival  includes music, dancing, and food. After moving to your Chandler apartment, you’ll be able to cheer on your favorite ostrich – and then your favorite Chihuahua!

And when you aren’t watching ostriches and Chihuahuas race (not each other!), there are several other festivals and events in Chandler to enjoy. Be sure to check out the Jazz Festival, the Downtown Chandler Art Walk, the Chandler Science Spectacualr, the Great American BBQ and Beer Festival, the Multicultural Festival, the Downtown Block Party, and the Chuck Wagon Cook-Off!

You might also enjoy the Chandler Indian Art Market, where you can purchase jewelry, sculptures, Katsina/Kachina carvings, paintings, and more. This event also features a variety of live entertainment. And if you are a fan of WordPress, Chandler is the location of its annual WordCamp – a three-day conference with attendees from about 30 countries.

Life in your new apartment in Chandler will never be boring! When there isn’t a festival or event to attend, just head downtown! The downtown area features a micro-brewery, a winery, shops, galleries, and restaurants. It is anchored by the San Marcos Golf Resort, built in 1913.

Apartments in Chandler provide a fantastic city filled with fun things to do. Be sure to visit the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center when you want to cool off (Chandler enjoys an impressive 330 days of sunshine, after all) or go to the Chandler Center for the Arts when you want to enjoy the symphony, catch a special music guest, or see a dance performance.

Race fans will appreciate the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, while train enthusiasts will love the Arizona Railway Museum. If you love to fish, Desert Breeze Lake is located in Desert Breeze Park and contains sunfish, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, tilapia, carp, and catfish. Golfers will love their Chandler apartment, which places them near five championship golf courses.
