Taku / Campbell Neighborhood

The Taku / Campbell neighborhood is roughly four miles directly south of the heart of downtown Anchorage, Alaska. This large community is bounded by West International Airport Road on the north, O’Malley Road on the south, Minnesota Drive on the west and Brayton Drive on the east. Taku / Campbell encompasses the 99515 and 99518 zip code areas and is part of Anchorage County.

In total, the Taku / Campbell neighborhood includes nearly 9.5 square miles and hosts more than 11,700 residents. As of 2008, the average household income here was on par with the city average of $75,637. The vast majority of the single-family homes in this community were built in the 1970s and 80s, but a few are older and some new construction continued into the 21st century.

The Taku / Campbell neighborhood is a conveniently located community, situated within a short drive of several area amenities. Frequent travelers living in this neighborhood enjoy proximity to the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, situated roughly a mile west of the neighborhood, along the shores of the Knik Arm.

Approximately two miles northeast of Taku / Campbell is the University Area, which includes the University of Alaska – Anchorage campus, Alaska Pacific University, Providence Alaska Medical Center and the Alaska Native Medical Center.

As one might expect from Alaska, there is also no shortage of nature and opportunities for outdoor recreation near Taku / Campbell. A few miles directly east of the neighborhood is Campbell Park, which hosts a softball field, lighted skiing trail, playground equipment and picnic area. East of that is a large expanse of mostly undeveloped natural land known as the Far North Bicentennial Park. Although this parkland doesn’t offer many amenities, it is a popular destination for hiking, cross-country skiing and wildlife viewing.

For cultural attractions, entertainment, dining, and shopping, residents of Taku / Campbell head north into the downtown area, which is only about 12 minutes away by car.
