Russian Jack Park Apartments for Rent
Named for a rather colorful character, “Russian Jack” Marchin, this Anchorage neighborhood sits just east of downtown. Largely residential, Russian Jack has the added advantage of being next door to Russian Jack Springs Park. Until recently this park was the site of Russian Jack Ski Hill, at one time the only ski facility within Anchorage city limits. Though the tow rope and lodge are closed, Russian Jack Springs Park is a family friendly open space offering a baseball/softball field, tennis courts, picnic shelter with barbeque grills and kids playgrounds. The ski-hill is still used for sledding.
South Pine Street is the eastern divider between the park and the Russian Jack neighborhood. Debarr Road is the northern border; Bragaw Street is to the west and East Northern Lights Boulevard winds around the southern end. Schools servicing the area include the Russian Jack Elementary School, Clark Middle School and East High School, the latter located on the neighborhood’s southwestern end. Churches in the area include St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Crossroads Assembly of God, and Zion Lutheran Church.
Commercial zones are located along Debarr Road, Bragaw Street, and Northern Lights Boulevard, which is also where Anchorage’s People Mover Bus system offers service. Debarr Street is home to a Costco as well as an assortment of small businesses and restaurants. Northways Mall, which includes a Safeway, is less than a mile away from Russian Jack via Bragaw Street and Penland Parkway to the northwest. Other nearby businesses include the United States Post Office, the Anchorage Daily News and the KNBA radio station all near the intersection of Debarr Road and Bragaw Street.
