The Basher neighborhood is located in southeast Anchorage, in the northern portion of the Far North Bicentennial Park. This community is east of Campbell Park and the Campbell Airport, west of Fort Richardson, and south of the Scenic Foothills community. Amidst the open natural land that is Far North Bicentennial Park, are Basher Drive and the community of Basher. This area is primarily undeveloped and protected natural land, but a few dozen homes can be found nestled amidst the trees south of the fort. The homes are well spaced. For anyone who wants to have nature at the front door, this is the ideal community.
A variety of trails can be found in Far North Bicentennial Park, including cross-country skiing trails and hiking paths. Although a few amenities exist, this large park is primarily designed to be protected wildlife habitat, stream beds, and watersheds. However, nearby Campbell Park, to the northwest, offers more traditional park amenities, including a small ball field, lit skiing trails, playground equipment, a creek for fishing, and picnic areas.
Despite the rather secluded nature of the Basher neighborhood, residents here are only a short drive from many city amenities. The downtown area is less than 10 miles away, but the drive through the scenic parkland and into the city takes roughly 25 minutes. Along the way, residents pass the University Area, which includes the Alaska Pacific University, the University of Alaska-Anchorage, and several medical centers.
Once residents of Basher get closer to the downtown area, many amenities are available, including a variety of cultural attractions, entertainment, shopping, and dining options.
