Totem Lake Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Totem Lake is an area in Kirkland Washington, a city that lies on the shore of Lake Washington, across the water from Seattle. Located off Interstate 405, the area is easily accessible from Bellevue to the south and Everett to the north. The neighborhood’s western edge is I-405.
The 26-acre Totem Lake Mall, built in 1973, stretches between 120th Avenue NE and Totem Lake Boulevard. Many apartment buildings and condos dot the larger commercial streets, and single-family homes are located in developments on side streets. Retail and commercial buildings cluster alongside the Mall and Totem Lake Boulevard. A large multiplex cinema can be found in the Mall. Further, many restaurants and shops fill the neighborhood, from national chains to small independents. Doctors’ offices like the Pacific Medical Center also occupy the commercial area.
Totem Lake has been designated an “Urban Center” by the city of Kirkland. This designation intends to help redevelopment in the area and create more jobs and housing in the district. A building previously housing Costco is now the Public Safety Building, containing the Police Station and local courts. An off-leash dog park will soon be located in Totem Lake as well.
Commuters from the area can travel south to State Route 520 to access the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge for travel to Seattle. Farther south on I-405, the I-90 Floating Bridge also takes travelers to Seattle. Headed west, I-90 crosses Snoqualmie Pass on its way to Eastern Washington before stretching across the United States to Boston, Massachusetts.
