Lakeview Neighborhood

Lakeview is a neighborhood in Kirkland, Washington, in King County. Located near Seattle, this suburban town is on the shores of Lake Washington with a vibrant downtown along Market Street that runs along the lake. Numerous parks provide pathways for walking and biking, as well as beach access, including Juanita Bay Park. This 143-acre nature preserve covers a half-mile of coastline on Lake Washington. The park provides walking trails, interpretive trails, wetlands and picnic areas. Boating access is provided in Carillion Point at a public boat ramp in the marina.

The Lakeview neighborhood is in the southernmost portion of the city limits, along the waterfront on the west side of the city. It is bounded by the neighborhood of Central Houghton to the east. Lake Washington shoreline delineates the western boarder and the eastern border is defined by railroad tracks. Two large streets transverse the area: Lakeview Drive and Lake Washington Boulevard.

Students in Kirkland attend Lake Washington School District Schools. Commuters travel State Route 520 across the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge to access Seattle. Shops along Market Street attract residents, especially the restaurants, cafes and galleries. The city sponsors a monthly Art Walk. Art lovers can also enjoy the many sculptures in the area parks and take classes in the Kirkland Art Center, where gallery space is also provided for the community.

Kirkland is dedicated to providing facilities for pedestrians and passed an Active Transportation Plan in 2009 to encourage the development and improvement of trails for bikes, horses and people.
