Located between Lavon Lake and Ray Hubbard Lake, Wylie Texas is a beautiful city 25 miles northeast of Dallas. Originally named Nickelville, the city crowned itself the Onion Capital of the World in the 1930s. Recently, a population explosion has caused the town to grow 104 percent, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Part of the reason for that growth is Wylie’s historic downtown, dozens of parks, several festivals, well-planned neighborhoods, and the DFW Metroplex.
Lavon and Ray Hubbard Lakes are excellent fishing and boating locations. Lavon Lake, a favorite among anglers for its bigmouth bass, crappie, and catfish, is bordered by several parks. In addition, Wylie has over 25 parks on more than 650 acres of parkland. Olde City Park in Historic Downtown is the city hub, with several annual festivals taking place here, including the Wylie Arts Festival, Taste of Wylie, and a concert series.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a short drive away. The museums, universities, art galleries, shopping, and more are easily reached by Highway 78. And although Wylie used to be a bedroom community, with steady growth and several new businesses to the area, Wylie apartment renters can live, work, and play in Wylie.
