Hidden among the foothills north of downtown San Antonio sits the upscale gated community of Roseheart. The road that veers off Smithson Valley Road disappears as it curves between two wooded hills. Roseheart Road is the only way in and out and is protected by an electronic gate.

Once inside the neighborhood, the road winds past color-coordinated homes on large lots, changing its name to Grassmarket Drive before it ends its loop around the neighborhood. Street names like Earl Grey Road and Twynbridge Road give the neighborhood a bit of a formal touch.

The Roseheart Home Owners Association (HOA) takes care of everything from community security to maintenance of the common areas. The Roseheart clubhouse, fitness center, swimming pool, tennis courts, picnic grounds, guest library, and walking paths are all under its jurisdiction. The Roseheart HOA website offers section where residents can e-mail their neighbors, read the monthly newsletters, or post photos of their pets. This is the community for people who want to live close to nature but still like things safe and organized.

Schools are all outside this Texas neighborhood, the closest being the private Pinnacle Montessori to the north. The closest public schools are the Frank Tejeda Middle School and Encino Park Elementary, both about two miles away. St. Padre Pio Catholic Church and Northern Hills United Methodist are the two closest houses of worship. The shops and restaurants of Village at Stone Oak Mall are northwest of Roseheart, as is the Canyon Spring Golf Club and Golf Course.
