Rockwall got its name when early pioneer T.U. Wade found a rock wall when digging a well. He suggested the name and the town folks agreed. Rockwall is just 20 miles from downtown Dallas, and residents enjoy an easy commute on I-30.
Rockwall County is the smallest county in Texas with possibly the smallest town square. The square comes to life each month with the open-air market where you can find unusual, unique, handmade items. Downtown also houses many popular restaurants, shops, and small businesses.
The city is one of the fastest-growing in the state, thanks to its location on Lake Ray Hubbard, a popular boating, fishing, water-skiing, and swimming destination. One of the premiere destinations in Rockwall is the Harbor, located on the lake. With beautiful water fountains, open green space, and lake access, the Harbor is a great place for shopping, dining, having a picnic, or taking a boat ride. The Harbor hosts live concerts and the Art League art walk.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast there are at least 18 parks in Rockwall with playgrounds, swimming pools, baseball fields, picnic areas, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Learn to fly fish at Harry Myers Park, test your skills at the skate park, take part in an off-road triathlon — whatever your sport, Rockwall has you covered.
