Greenway Upper Kirby Apartments for Rent

Greenway/Upper Kirby consists of the Greenway Plaza and the Upper Kirby Commercial District as well as the surrounding residential neighborhoods. The boundaries of this “super neighborhood” are Westheimer Road to the north, the (610) West Loop Freeway to the west, Bissonet and Glemont Streets to the south, and the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks to the east. It is located inside the 610 Loop in the southwestern part of Houston.

The community consists of three main attractions: Highland Village, the Upper Kirby Commercial District, and the Greenway Plaza. It also consists of some affluent residential neighborhoods, but it is still considered one of the area’s commercial corridors.

The Upper Kirby District is home to upscale shopping that includes Muse Boutique, a women’s clothing store on W. Alabama Street, and Flyte Boutique, a men’s and women’s clothing boutique on Westheimer Road.

Area restaurants include Ruggles Green on West Alabama Street, Houston’s first “green” restaurant, Field of Greens, a vegetarian restaurant on West Alabama Street, Sushi King on Kirby Drive, and Demeris Bar-B-Q on South Shepherd Drive. There is also Cafe Adobe, a Mexican restaurant on Westheimer Road.

Greenway Plaza on Highway 59 consists of 10 acres, 10 commercial buildings, a full service food court, a hotel and condominiums. It serves as a major employment center for the Houston metropolitan area.

Residential neighborhoods in the area date back to the 1940s and 1950s. Homes from the period tended to be large ranch-style homes, but starting in the 1990s many of the older homes were torn down to make way for new two-story homes. The close proximity to so many of Houston’s amenities, including major arteries such as the Southwest Freeway and the 610 West Loop Freeway, make this a very desirable area both to live or work.
