Schools in the Golfcrest area include Brookline Elementary School and Golfcrest Elementary School, both part of the Houston Independent School District. Also nearby is Houston Gateway Academy, a charter school alternative to public schools. Houston Community College is a nearby higher education institution a few miles north of Golfcrest.

Golfcrest also offers easy access to parks including Brookline Park, which is close to Brookline Elementary School, and has open spaces and playground equipment accessible after school hours. Golfcrest sits to the east of Barnett Stadium, a multi-purpose sports complex that seats 8,000 people and is owned by Houston Independent School District.
