Northeast Dallas / White Rock Neighborhood

Picturesque White Rock Lake has long been called an “urban oasis” for Northeast Dallas residents. The sprawling 1250 acre lake dates back to 1911, and is home to several boating clubs, notably the Corinthian and the SMU Sailing Club. The White Rock Marathon, benefitting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, has been hosted there since 1971, and various fishing and boating competitions are held annually.

The Lady of White Rock Lake is a popular ghost of the “Lakewood” area. According to one version of the legend, a woman drowned in the lake decades ago and has since appeared to several motorists in the area, begging for a ride home. Upon reaching the address given, the drivers find their passenger gone, leaving only water in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Residents of the White Rock Lake area enjoy easy access to the Bath House Cultural Center and the White Rock Lake Museum. Other recreational sites include hiking and biking trails, an Audubon Society station, and the Dallas Arboretum. A fenced off-leash dog park is located at the north end of the lake, close to a conveniently situated DART station.

The White Rock/Lakewood area consists of zip code 75214, and is bounded by Northwest Freeway to the north, Skillman Street to west, Fitzhugh Avenue to the south and the lake itself on the east. Most of the area is residential, with the exception of a trendy area surrounding the Lakewood Theater. You’ll be able to find several apartment communities in the White Rock area.

Many of the area’s wealthier families are members of the prestigious Lakewood Country Club, which features an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and sumptuous dining halls available for weddings and receptions.
