West Oak Hill Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Formerly known as Live Oak Springs, the Oak Hill neighborhood was annexed to the city of Austin in 2000. Prior to that, the community was its own entity, with the first homes built in the late 1800s. By the 1980s, there were only about 400 residents. After the annexation, the population started to grow, and different subdivisions emerged, among them West Oak Hill.
The West Oak Hill community is still growing. More and even larger homes are being built, most of them single-family residences. A number of condos and mobile homes are also nearby. Lots are large, with groves of trees providing privacy between one home and another.
Metro transit bus service runs along Scenic Brook Drive, the main thoroughfare into the development. Adjacent to West Oak Hill is the Austin Community College, Pinnacle Campus. Across from the college is the Seton Southwest Healthcare Center.
To the east is the Center of the Hills Shopping Center, which includes a grocery with a pharmacy and a preschool. Other schools in the area include Oak Hill Elementary, the Greenwood School, and Cedars Montessori. Two churches within walking distance are Southwest Hills Community Church and Hill Country Baptist.
Four miles east of West Oak Hill is the Barton Creek Wilderness Park. With more than 1,000 acres of wooded, hilly green space, this park has hiking and off-road biking trails, swimming holes, and off-leash dog areas. Downtown Austin is farther east. Austin is home to the Round Rock Express baseball team and the newly minted Texas Stars ice hockey organization.
