In the foothills of South Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains is the city of Greenville. A scenic rolling region, Greenville is home to more than 56,000 people. Central Greenville is an expansive area of the city, encompassing several city blocks of residential structures, businesses, and city parks.

The residential areas of Central Greenville vary, many including modest homes on winding streets. Tuskegee Avenue is lined with mature trees, while Poinsett Avenue has older brick homes set back from the road with retaining walls and open spaces. Along East Park Avenue, residents can walk to McPherson Park or the Senior Action Sears Shelter, which hosts activities for area seniors.

McPherson Park is central to the neighborhood and is one of the area’s oldest parks. It has facilities for tennis and picnics, as well as children’s playgrounds and a mini-golf course. On the west side is Cleveland Park, a large park with a popular dog park and the Greenville Zoo on its north end. The zoo is small, sitting on 14 acres, but houses hundreds of animals. Guests can plan on about two hours to tour it. The park also features facilities for tennis, volleyball, and softball. Cleveland Park is home to the Fernwood Nature Trail and the Rock Quarry Garden.

Just north of Buncombe Street in the heart of Central Greenville are the Upcountry History Museum, the Greenville County Library, and the Greenville County Museum of Art. The Upcountry History Museum features exhibits regarding the history, art, and culture of the South Carolina’s upcountry region. Originating in the 1930s, the Greenville County Museum of Art continues to display some of the region’s best collections of American art.

With pedestrian-friendly streets, neighborhood parks, amenities like shopping, dining, and entertainment nearby, the area of Central Greenville has something to offer everyone.
