Yorkshire, in Columbia, South Carolina, sits just outside of the outer belt of Interstate 77, east of downtown. The boundaries of Yorkshire are Leesburg Road to the south, Interstate 77 to the west, and Newell Road to the north and east. Yorkshire borders Fort Jackson. Yorkshire is a desirable area. Home prices are above the median for Columbia. Most of the homes were built between 1960 and 1980. Yorkshire is a walkable neighborhood and a safe place for kids to play. The streets are quiet, with no through traffic in the neighborhood. The houses are well kept and the trees are large and keep the streets shady.
Yorkshire is next to Fort Jackson, the largest training center for the US army. More than 50 percent of all soldiers pass through Fort Jackson. The Fort Jackson Museum, at 4442 Jackson Blvd, showcases more than 200 years of military history.
Columbia takes its golf seriously, and Yorkshire residents have their choice of links. LinRick Golf Course, at 356 Camp Ground Road, is a municipal course open to the public. Forest Lake Club is a champion course in a country club environment, with a pool, restaurant, and tennis.
Columbia is home to the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina, where they play football in the SEC. Williams-Bryce Stadium can be quite a loud place on game day Saturday. Tickets are hard to come by, but the viewing parties are everywhere as the whole town gets behind the team.
