Skyland, in Columbia, South Carolina, is just north of downtown. Skyland runs along Skyland Drive to Interstate 76, and is bounded on the east by the three rivers and on the west by Greystone Boulevard.
Skyland homes are generally two- and three-bedroom homes, built generally in the 1950s. Mostly brick, the prices are lower than the median for Columbia, but they are considered a good value for the money. Many of the homes are being renovated over time, and some consider this to be the next “hot” neighborhood in Columbia.
Skyland has mature spruce and fir trees that make for shady lanes, and the fact that there are no through streets help keep the traffic to a neighborhood minimum. Spectacular river views mean that Skyland is a great place to take a walk.
There is a lot to do near Skyland. Boating and swimming in the Saluda River is popular on hot days, and the river has been declared a scenic waterway all the way to the Saluda Dam. There is development along the Congaree River for unique riverfront restaurants, hotels, and shops. Riverside Golf Center at 1600 Garner Lane has a nine-hole executive course with lights, a driving range, instructions, and a club fitting and repair service just minutes from Skyland.
The Riverside Zoo and Botanical Garden is located south across the freeway from Skyland at 500 Wildlife Parkway. The Botanical Garden is 70 acres of diverse and interesting flowers, trees, and designs. The Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals, as well as a coral reef and a riverbank farm.
