East End is a community on Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s east side, about 10 minutes from the heart of the downtown area. The zip code for East End is 15217, and it is part of Allegheny County.

This community is located north of Interstate 376 and east of South Braddock Street, near Frick Park. This park is the largest of the city’s six regional parks, spanning more than 560 acres and offering a variety of amenities, including Nine Mile Run. Known as a natural respite within the city, much of this urban park is undeveloped wooded slopes and steep valleys, which host extensive walking/biking trails. Clayton Hill is a favorite destination of local birdwatchers, who have recorded more than 100 different species here. The park also offers baseball fields, tennis courts, and a playground. It also features a unique lawn bowling green, the only public amenity of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania.

East End is also just a short drive east of Schenley Park, another large park that hosts a golf course. Surrounding the park are many of the city’s higher education institutions, including Chatham University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Duquesne University.

Several medical centers can also be found in this area, which not only provide convenient health care options, but also constitute some major area employers. Farther west, in the heart of the downtown area, are a variety of cultural attractions. Among these are several theaters, live music venues, art galleries, and museums. Sports fans enjoy close proximity to Heinz Field and PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team and the Pittsburgh Pirates MLB team, respectively.
