The River Grove neighborhood is located to the southeast of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, on the east bank of the Arkansas River. Most of the area is undeveloped and tree-filled. The one major exception is a large apartment/condo community located in its southwest portion. There are some scattered ranch-style homes throughout the rest of the area.
Learning institutions in the area include Victory Christian School, Metro Christian Academy, Mizel Jewish Community Day School, and Oral Roberts University.
Luby’s, China King, and Oriental Buffet are some of the restaurants in the area.
The 400-acre Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch is on the shores of Lake Oologah. It contains the two-story post-Civil War home of Will Rogers, who was born here in 1879. On the grounds are RV hookups (in season), picnic areas, and a grass airstrip. Texas Longhorn cattle and other livestock can be seen on the premises.
The nearby Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum attracts nearly 600,000 visitors each year. The North American Living Museum complex on the grounds of the zoo features a time gallery, a simulated earthquake, and a realistic walk-through cave. The zoo has over 2,800 animals in residence.
At the Cherokee Heritage Center, visitors can learn about food preparation, weapons making, basket weaving, and recreation — the Cherokee way. Also on-site is an ancient village re-creation, museum, and the Cherokee Hall of Fame.
The Tulsa Performing Arts Center, or PAC, is home to four theaters. Guests come here to catch traveling Broadway shows, as well as dance, comedy, opera, ballet, and orchestra performances.
