The Independence neighborhood is located on the northeast side of Tulsa, Oklahoma, fewer than 10 minutes by car from the heart of the downtown area. This conveniently-located community is just minutes east of US Highway 75 and north of US Highway 412 and Interstate 244. Its boundaries are marked by East Pine Street, North Lewis Avenue, North 33rd East Avenue, and the local railway and Dawson Road. This neighborhood is part of Tulsa County, in the 74110 zip code. Nearby area communities include Cherokee Heights to the west, North Evanston to the north, and Kendal-Whittier to the south.
The northern portion of this community is primarily residential, host to several hundred well-kept, single-family homes. Many commercial and industrial buildings border the railway on the south side of the neighborhood.

The Springdale Shopping Center is situated just outside of neighborhood bounds on the northwest, offering a bank and several popular eateries. Mohawk Park, the city’s most prominent outdoor attraction, is also located within a few miles of Independence. This large park offers two lakes, an 18-hole golf course, a new soccer complex and many more traditional and unique amenities and facilities. It is also the site of the Tulsa Zoo.
