Schumacher Place Neighborhood

Schumacher Place is one of Columbus, Ohio’s hidden gems. Homes in this neighborhood are in high demand due to both its prime location and historic role in the development of the suburban areas of Columbus.

This charming community was once populated with pasture fields and dominated by the beer-making business. It was named for one of the neighborhood’s original families, the Schumachers. Max Schumacher opened a dairy farm here in 1888, in the exact spot where Sycamore Condominiums sit today.

Many of the streets in the neighborhood are named for prominent families or characteristic traits. Sycamore Street, for example, is named for the area’s beautiful Sycamore trees.

This neighborhood is in zip code is 43206, and it is a part of Franklin County. It is bordered by Livingston Avenue in the north, Whittier Street in the south, Grant Avenue in the west, and Parsons Avenue in the east. The children of Schumacher Place attend schools in the Columbus City School District.

It lies east of German Village and has similar German cultural undercurrents. This prime location also means that Schumacher Place is close to all of the popular pubs, restaurants, and shopping in German Village. Similar shopping, dining, and entertainment options are in downtown Columbus, which is just a short drive to the north.

There are two distinct sections in the community of Schumacher Place. The oldest section is found north of Sycamore Street. Here, quaint brick homes line the streets. The second section consists of homes built in the early 1900s. Wood-framed homes are more common here.

This is a very active community. Residents take pride in their homes and landscaping, and this is evident in the annual Home and Garden Tour. Neighborhood socials are also common among the residents.
