The Leawood neighborhood is bound along the north by East Livingston Avenue, along the south by I-70, and along the east by two parks. Kraner Park occupies part of the neighborhood, while the much larger Big Walnut Park adjoins Kraner. It is a neighborhood of small ranch homes, on small, well-tended lots. Sidewalks make Leawood a very walkable area.
Recreational opportunities are abundant and very close by. Big Walnut Creek Park has multiple athletic fields and courts, a large recreation center, a skate park, walking trail and Greenway Trail access. Big Walnut also has a 3-acre off-leash dog park with a swimming pond. Bennett Park and Recreational Center is a short drive west of Leawood. There are more than a dozen golf courses within a short drive.
Along Livingston Avenue, there are small restaurants and a bakery. Franchise eateries are located to the south off I-70. There are two movie theaters close by as well, called Drexel East and Dollar Cinema Brice Mall. There are many shopping centers around Leawood, including a J. C. Penney Outlet Mall, Brice Road Shopping Center, and Eastland Mall, with national stores and restaurants.
Leawood is a few miles from the sprawling campus of The Ohio State University and Ohio Stadium, home of the Buckeyes. The stadium was added to the National Historic Register in the 1970s. Two small universities are quite close to the Leawood neighborhood: Capital University and Ohio Dominican University.
Other nearby attractions include COSI, Center of Science and Industry. The Columbus Museum of Art offers a variety of programs for adults and children, and maintains a large permanent collection and exhibits.
