Glen Echo Neighborhood

Glen Echo is a neighborhood roughly 10 minutes directly north of downtown Columbus, within Franklin County. This neighborhood is on the northern edge of the city’s University District and within walking distance of The Ohio State University campus. The zip code for Glen Echo is 43202.

The community takes its name from the Glen Echo Ravine, which is situated along the neighborhood’s northern edge. The main streets that make up this community include Arcadia Avenue, North Fourth Street, Glenmawr Avenue, and Summit Street. Interstate 71 runs past the neighborhood on the east. Part of the ravine that borders the neighborhood on the north has been made into a park of the same name.

Most of the homes in Glen Echo were built prior to 1940, and some date back as far as 1909. Architectural styles include Shingle Style, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and American Foursquare. The homes here are generally well kept, and many have porches that overlook the neighborhood. In 1997, the Glen Echo neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, not so much for its architectural history, but largely for the overall character of the development.

Due to the community’s proximity to the university campus and the interstate, there are quite a few amenities within walking distance or a short drive of Glen Echo. The nearby interstate has its fair share of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, and the campus offers a stadium and a variety of cultural venues and activities. Residents also find plenty of shops and eateries within walking distance of the campus and the Glen Echo neighborhood.
