Amercrest Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The Amercrest neighborhood, located in downtown Columbus, is one of the city’s oldest historic neighborhoods. The combination of two neighborhoods, American Addition and LeeCrest, has resulted in Amercrest. The community is being given a facelift and new energy.
The City of Columbus, along with other organizations, has made a commitment to revitalize this neighborhood. In addition to the existing older homes, new housing is being constructed for low- to moderate-income families. New homes are being built by the Columbus Housing Partnership on vacant lots or on the site of abandoned property. The City of Columbus has committed millions of dollars to improve the infrastructure.
A community project known as the American Addition Community Garden is located at the corner of Joyce Avenue and Twelfth Avenue in Amercrest. The garden is a place where residents can work together to maintain green space, improve the appearance of the area, or grow their own food. An afternoon spent working in the garden, planting flowers, weeding, and generally cleaning up is a fun and rewarding activity the whole family can enjoy.
The Tray Lee Community Center, founded in 1956 by pastor and community activist Reverend Edward Traylor and the Lee Avenue Methodist Church, remains active in the community. The center offers children a chance to participate in scouting and has a park in which they can play, complete with a tree house.
