Also downtown are cultural and historical sites like the North Carolina Museum of History and the State Capitol Building.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is also downtown, just fifteen miles south of Steeplechase. It is the largest natural history museum in the southeast, with four floors of exhibits and interactive activities for all ages.

For outdoor enjoyment, the Falls Lake State Recreation Area is about nine miles north of Steeplechase on Creedmoor Road. The state park has about 26,000-acres of woods and a large lake for swimming, boating and fishing. There are several trails for hiking including both easy and challenging courses for any level of hiking enthusiast.
